Scatter Creek Endurance Ride
We had the pleasure of attending the Scatter Creek endurance ride in Washington the first weekend in August. It was filled with anticipation as we were bringing our two 5 year olds, Lucy and Sugar, for their first 25 mile ride. We have spent the last year taking them to rides to simply acclimate them to camp chaos and using them to pull ribbons after events. There has been countless miles of slooooow conditioning rides where we picnic all day long, night riding on trails, and pretend veterinary examinations. Sometimes when you have been riding your well-seasoned horses for years you forget what it takes to get them to that point. This last year has been a solid reminder of the dedication and patience it takes to get new and inexperienced horses to the starting line. David rode Sugar on Saturday and Lucy on Sunday. Both were incredibly well behaved riding by themselves and enjoying the single track trails. They spent time picnicking and hanging out by the water troughs as well as time in the vet check enjoying the oat floats. David somehow managed to take home a first and second place with a very conservative pace-
I rode Gizmo on Saturday in the 50 and he was happy to be out and took home first place, high vet score and best condition - a first for him in his career
